The fault in our stares #100-wordfiction

He offered to walk her to the station. She sensed his well-toned arm within the suede jacket brushing against her slender, bare one as they tried to match their uneven strides. He leaned in suddenly towards her ear to whisper something. Her tensed muscles relaxed even as her full-throated laughter echoed through the dimly-lit streets. As the wind teased, his hands enveloped her from behind draping the jacket over her.

Despite enjoying the pleasant company, she felt at unease. She instinctively knew they weren't alone that night.

The judgemental stares turned into full-blown gossip by the time she came home.

  1. Oh my, yes! Those judgmental stares are terrible and the gossip is even worse. Great little story in the short word count. I hope they can ignore the gossip and find happiness!

  3. Being judgmental comes so easily to us because we have been conditioned that way. It would probably take many lifetimes to overcome this prejudiced thinking.
    Loved the beginning of new love between the two of them!!

  4. Oh I hate this. This fear of people watching and judging you can take away from the happiest moment of your life. I love how you wrote - the shared warmth of couple came through so beautifully.
