Mariam sat opposite the blazing tandoor roasting kebabs until golden brown. The mid-day sun scorched her fair skin to a similar shade.

She braved it all. To win back Anwar.

Anwar, who she knew to be a philanderer.

    I love the image of the girl and the tandoor. Knowing that it was likely all in vain added a layer of figurative heat to the literal fire.
