The pursuit

Searching for the elusive cheer
she sets out on a travel lone
walking past a gurgling brook
that beckons her to stop and look

"Ah! am afraid, I need to go
for life is short and my wish afar"

Little birds twitter along
merry butterflies singing a song
"there's some sweet nectar just across
do care to have some when you pass"

"Ah! am afraid, I need to go
for life is short and my wish afar"

Friendly breeze and fragrant roses
cajole and tempt to stop her
but she rushes on in her pace
to find her Joy that is yonder

All at last she cares to pause
just to see whence she's come
and lo! shines the sight below
a land with beauty aglow

"oh! what a fool have I been
in hurrying past all that was my dream"

Realization dawns at last on her
that, which eluded was always there
What a pity! she'd missed the fun
in blindly seeking her destination

  1. Aww! This is so nice :) I wish more people realized how important and wondrous it is to focus on the journey and savour each and every moment...Reaching someplace is only what is on people's mind and they miss out so much...

    1. thanks, Divya!
We always want to look forward to something, that which makes us want to surge ahead but in the process we overlook the small blessings that make a today.

  10. Superb Uma!!
You have conveyed the message with such beautiful flowing lines of poetry ..
Poems have this specialty where you need not literally talk about what you want to convey and yet make the reader understand the message. Of course that happens only when the poem is written well like yours :)
It felt so nice and light to read and left me smiling and nodding my head in agreement ..
    Loved your poem.

    1. Exactly! poems work best when you wish to convey more in less..but really, I am always skeptical before publishing my so-called poems. But readers like you all make me feel good about it. Hence the courage ;-)
      thanks a bunch, Aarthy! :-))

  16. Uma the poem is so beautiful I want to agree with u but the thing is I don't.
There is another side to it u knw.....if she kept revelling in the moment[like I do] she will soon lose focus and lose interest in the future and then again all is lost;-(

Balance darling....balance is the key but try telling that to Her, whichever way she is not satisfied;-P;-/!!!!!

  17. Beautiful lines that reminded me of the majesty of "Daffodils" by wordsworth. The last line of yours captured the spirit of the quote in my good morning mail
"When you run so fast to get somewhere, you miss the fun of getting there.
Life is not a race, so take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over"
Thank you Uma for the excellent poem
